The 5 SMART Goals

1.Children – LANGUAGE DEVELOPMENT GOAL
“Children’s language development will be supported through a 10-minute interactive storytelling session during circle time every day for the next four weeks.”
Strategies:
-
Use puppets, pictures, and gestures to engage different learning styles.
-
Track vocabulary growth weekly to adapt stories to children’s interests.
2. Families – COMMUNICATION GOAL
“To strengthen communication with families, I will provide a brief positive update about each child at pick-up time two times a week for the next month.”
Strategies:
-
Make short notes throughout the day to share meaningful updates.
-
Ask families whether they prefer verbal updates, written notes, or text messages.

3.Colleagues – COLLABORATION GOAL
“To promote collaboration, I will share one teaching strategy or resource with my colleagues at each weekly team meeting for the next six weeks.”
Strategies:
-
Demonstrate or model each strategy during the meeting.
-
Invite feedback at the end of each meeting to refine shared practices.
4. Community – COMMUNITY HELPERS GOAL
“In order to build awareness of community helpers, I will introduce one community-helper themed book during story time once a week for the next month.”
Strategies:
-
Borrow age-appropriate and culturally diverse books from the library.
-
Follow up with a simple activity (drawing, acting, or discussion) to deepen understanding.

5. Environment – CLEAN-UP ROUTINE GOAL
“To support responsibility and classroom care, I will guide children through a 5-minute clean-up routine before lunch every day for the next three weeks.”
Strategies:
-
Use picture labels to help children independently put materials away.
-
Model the cleanup routine daily and offer positive reinforcement to consistent helpers.
